A midyear 2014 review.  We are already moving into the month of August and that makes us realize our website is dated and not full of current information!  Our Facebook page and our Adoption Lists at several sites give more current information than this location.  We are in process for several grants and are hopeful of developing better support than we have now.

We have been strong advocates for the nationwide concept of Trap, Neuter, and Return for community colonies of feral and abandoned cats.  We accomplished 136 neuters in 2013 and adopted 49 to forever homes and similar results are expected this year.  The Sanctuary population has risen to 207 since the beginning of the year at 184; most of that growth is from kittens of feral mothers.  There has been an explosion of unwanted kittens in our community and we have taken many in hopes of taming and adopting them with forever homes.

The Haven Humane Society is the public animal control agency for the City of Redding and Shasta County and has had contagious illness outbreaks this year requiring them to refuse acceptance of any cats until they are assured of a sanitary environment.  So all local non-profit animal care groups are trying to absorb the significant numbers without the support of Haven's housing and adoption services.

Review of our costs until June 30 for this year include $23,326 for food and litter expense, $8,506 for veterinary costs including spay and neuters, and nearly $2,000 just for medications.  We need help to pay these bills and supplement our current income stream.  Please consider a donation to continue this work, and consider a continuing amount to add to our monthly income.  Right now we spend more than we receive and we go to our inherited resources to cover the difference.  We see that resource will disappear without additional funding.  We need help from our community in order to continue our efforts.
