July 26, 2013. Brief report of our current activities.

Stillwater Cat Haven continues to rescue feral and abandoned cats and kittens.  Right now  kittens are being born and people are realizing their local colony of cats is suffering an uncontrolled growth spurt and they are calling for help, unfortunately after the kittens have been born rather than before.  We are trying to respond to the significant numbers.  Our normal desire is to capture the mothers and fathers and get them neutered and returned to their existing location wherever possible, stablizing the size of the existing colonies.  Most of the kittens in this situation are brought here to our Sanctuary.  They need to become accustomed  to humans in order to be candidates for adoption.  Some kittens respond positively from the first contact, others are nervous and afraid and will need some time and taming in order to become good pets.

We hope to be able to transfer some of these kittens to other groups.  Last year we had a similar situation and some of our local kittens and young cats went to Marin county, Reno, and southern Oregon.  We try to adopt them locally as well, but it seems there is a kitten explosion at this time over the entire area, more than local adoptions can accommodate.
